ROSEMARY’S BABY

MINUIT AU PARC

Malgré les conseils de leur vieil ami Hutch, Guy Woodhouse et sa jeune femme, enceinte, s'installent dans un immeuble new-yorkais vétuste, considéré par leur ami comme une demeure maléfique. Aussitôt, leurs voisins, Minnie et Roman Castevet, vieux couple d'Europe centrale, imposent leur amitié et leurs services. Si Guy accepte facilement ce voisinage, Rosemary s'en inquiète.  

‘’Alors dans sa meilleure époque, Roman Polanski était sans doute le cinéaste idéal pour réussir un tel film et le rendre singulièrement inoubliable : il instille un malaise permanent et une sensation d’inconfort, contrastant étrangement avec une photographie souvent claire et lumineuse. (…) À la tête du film, Mia Farrow excelle, poussée dans ses retranchements par un Polanski assez dur avec elle. Il n’hésita pas, lorsque c’était nécessaire, à lui rappeler ses problèmes personnels notamment ceux de son couple avec Frank Sinatra – le divorce survint peu après – afin de la rendre encore plus sensible.’’

Nous avons programmé ce film conformément à notre mission de mettre de l’avant le meilleur du cinéma d’art et d’essai et de proposer des expériences cinématographiques enrichissantes.

PARC AT MIDNIGHT

Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse move into an apartment in an opulent but gothic building in Manhattan. Their landlord, Edward "Hutch" Hutchins, attempts to dissuade them: the building has an unsavory history. They discover that their neighbors are an amiable elderly couple, Roman and Minnie Castevet, and Guy starts spending much time with them. Soon, strange things begin to happen: a young woman Rosemary meets in the laundry room seems to commit suicide, Rosemary has strange dreams and hears strange noises, and Guy becomes remote and distant. Then Rosemary gets pregnant and begins to suspect that her neighbors have unique plans for her child.

This wildly entertaining nightmare, faithfully adapted from Ira Levin’s best seller, stars a revelatory Mia Farrow as a young mother-to-be who grows increasingly suspicious that her overfriendly elderly neighbors (played by Sidney Blackmer and an Oscar-winning Ruth Gordon) and self-involved husband (John Cassavetes) are hatching a satanic plot against her and her baby. In the decades of occult cinema that Polanski’s ungodly masterpiece has spawned, it has never been outdone for sheer psychological terror.’’
